Water purification & power production equipment for on-site water & power production in water-starved communities and water shortage events around the U.S.
THE NEED FOR ON-SITE WATER & POWER PRODUCTION
Most Americans are fortunate enough to have uninterrupted access to drinking water. We turn on the tap and clean, safe water flows to meet our every water need.
Unfortunately, this is not the reality for some Americans all the time and for some Americans part of the time.
Nearly 63 Million Americans were exposed to potentially unsafe water more than once during the past decade.
About 1,600,000 Americans live in homes that lack running water, or a toilet, or a tub/shower.
Most of these long-term situations are in rural, low-income areas scattered around the United States. Some are on Indian Reservations. Some are whole communities. Some are very remote.
Wherever they are, the people are suffering with unnecessary hardship.
For other millions of Americans, the periodic lack of clean, safe water is more temporary, although the “temporary” could last many months. Service interruptions can happen instantly with no warning. Depending on the cause, “Don’t Drink The Water” notifications could signal a water crisis for an extended period of time.
Here are some of the threats to safe tap water…
Infrastructure Threats
– There are estimated to be about 650 water main breaks every day in the US… almost 250,000 per year.
– Water main breaks are up 27% in the last 6 years.
– The average age of water pipelines in the US is 45 years, with some having been in the ground over 150 years.
– ASCE grades US drinking water and wastewater infrastructure as a “D”.
– Estimates to upgrade the US water system run from many Billions to over $1 Trillion and may take up to 25 years.
Violation Threats
Community water systems can be issued violations by the EPA for not meeting and maintaining water standards. Correcting the causes can take time and cause interruptions.
– Over the last 10 years, the EPA has issued about 680,000 water quality and monitoring violations…an average of about 68,000 per year.
– Each year, between 3% and 10% of community water systems incur health-based violations, affecting between 9 and 45 Million people per year.
Emergency Threats
– FEMA has issued 528 Disaster Declarations in the last 5 years…an average of 106 each year.
– These are for major disaster events like flooding, hurricanes, tornados, landslides and mudslides, etc. The most prevalent is flooding, which can contaminate large areas and many water supplies.
OUR ON-SITE WATER & POWER PRODUCTION SOLUTIONS
We, our Government partners, and our NGO partners seek to maintain a pool of watermakers (SQN, AQN), powermakers (MPU, SPF) and new technology HELP Responder trailers to deploy around America after disaster strikes.
1. To communities in emergency, short-term need of clean, safe drinking water.
With an average of 106 FEMA Disaster Declarations and 68,000 EPA water quality and monitoring violations each year, there is significant opportunity for community water service interruptions.
And, we have an aging infrastructure already averaging 250,000 water main breaks a year.
The result is that many communities need clean, safe water while the problems get fixed. Presently, these short-term water needs are usually met with expensive trucked-in water or tons of bottled water.
Our solution is to aid the community by bringing in portable water purification units that can purify water from any available source in an effort to supplement the bottled water protocol. So, flood waters, ponds, streams or other sources can be used to make safe drinking water right on-site where needed. If seawater is available, we can desalinate it for drinking water.
We can solve water and power problems with either Individual Watermaker Units and Powermaker Units, or from “Total Solutions” like the new HELP Responder™.
The new HELP Responder™ trailer bundles various combinations of Individual Units into an integrated system of extraordinary versatility. Its versatility can dramatically increase operational strategic flexibility, especially in complex disaster situations.
The new HELP Responder™ is a 20-foot trailer towed by a pick-up truck. It can hold up to 4 SQNs, 2 AQNs, 124 kW of Battery Storage and has attached, fold-out solar panels that generate 6 kW. A supplemental Solar PowerFold™ (SPF) solar panel array can generate an additional 124 kW of green power. This HELP Responder MAX™ can purify water at rates of up to 28,000 GPD rated capacity. This is the equivalent of about 221,000 plastic bottles of water, or over 115 tons of water, or about 3 semi-trailer truckloads of bottled water.
The HELP Responder™ trailer contents can be customized for different situations. Different quantities of watermaking and powermaking equipment can be installed to produce different quantities of pure water and power.
When the job is done, the equipment is returned to our pool for use in the next emergency.
Overall, our solution is significantly less expensive, more efficient and more environmentally friendly than various other options.
2. To communities in long-term need of clean, safe drinking water.
There are a significant number of US communities that have major long-term drinking water problems. These problems arise from various sources like politics, infrastructure, geography, and all sorts of contamination.
Nevertheless, communities clamor for clean drinking water.
Common stop-gap solutions are:
– Somebody pays up to $1.75 per gallon for bottled water transported in.
– Somebody pays for tanker trucks bringing in and rationing drinking water from distant places.
– People have to travel somewhere to get and transport safe water.
Our solution is simple and more efficient…make drinking water on-site where it is needed.
We can deploy various equipment depending on the local circumstances. We can purify polluted freshwater from nearby streams, lakes, and contaminated wells. We can also desalinate seawater if the location is near saltwater sources, as well as provide clean water storage.
We can work with partners from various levels of governments, agencies and with other NGOs.
Whether the community needs short-term or long-term watermaking or powermaking, we can help.
